Veena Venu International Legacy Gurukul brings together practical musical training with heritage, understanding, creativity, cultural experience, independent work and personal growth, in one continuous educational journey.
Our students don't simply turn up for lessons and count classes completed. They step into a carefully built Gurukul journey- one built to deepen skill, sharpen musical intelligence, widen cultural awareness, and strengthen a student's own relationship with music.

Some have years of prior training behind them; some are accomplished in entirely different fields and are starting music from scratch; others are already preparing for advanced musical work.

Every student is placed into a clearly defined discipline and programme, based on age, prior experience, educational objective and mode of study.
Alongside the music curriculum
Indic Wisdom, Dhyan and Naad Chikitsa
Alongside its music curriculum, Veena Venu also teaches from the wider Bharatiya gyan parampara. This includes structured study in Dhyan- covering Naad Dhyan, Chakra Dhyan and other meditation practices – as well as Naad Chikitsa, the traditional study of sound and vibration in relation to well-being. A related body of work covers self-awareness and inner development, or Atmabodh, through courses in meditation, consciousness studies and allied subjects. Students may take these up as a separate area of study, alongside or beyond their chosen musical discipline.
Three Ways to Study
Offline
Offline learning runs through Veena Venu's designated centres and approved teaching arrangements in Ulwe, Sanpada, Panvel, Pune and other locations announced from time to time by the Gurukul.
Students travel to us from across Navi Mumbai and Mumbai, from all over Maharashtra, and from around the world.
Online
Live online classes let students from India and abroad take part in the full Gurukul journey- not a loose string of video calls, but structured guidance, practical instruction, learning courses, reviews, projects and the right digital resources to go with them.
Hybrid
Hybrid programmes combine online and offline learning within one planned structure.
A student might learn regularly online while coming in for select offline sessions, reviews, workshops, examinations, cultural experiences or intensive learning stretches.

Understanding You Before Teaching Begins
The Prelude is a short online introduction completed right at the start of a student's time with the Gurukul.
It isn't an exam. There's no pass or fail.
It simply helps us understand how a student listens, observes, learns, and what draws them to music and to their own interests.
For younger students, a parent can be involved in completing it.
Pratham Naad
Your Musical Starting Point
Soon after admission, every student completes Pratham Naad – a simple musical knowledge check that needs no preparation.
We ask students to answer honestly, from wherever they stand at that point.
The point isn't to judge them. It's to mark an honest starting line, so their progress from here can actually be measured against something real.
Gurukul Initiation
Your First Month at Veena Venu
Practical training starts immediately, from the first week.
Over the first month, students are also introduced to Veena Venu's broader educational culture: attentive listening, musical thought, foundational knowledge, cultural understanding, and what serious study actually demands of a person.
This opening stretch sets the tone for everything after: learning music means learning far more than what to sing or play.
Four Dimensions of a Veena Venu Education
SĀDHANĀ

These four dimensions, taken together, are what carry a Veena Venu education past technical skill and into the fuller development of the student behind it.
Joining a Living Institution of Music and Heritage
At Veena Venu,
music is the foundation.
A student begins with raag, bandish, gayan and vadan, but that is where the journey starts, not where it ends. From there, they move deeper, into the wider ocean of Indian kala and sanskriti. It is this immersion, this real understanding of what Indian classical music and the arts and culture around it actually are, that shapes a student into a genuinely accomplished singer or instrumentalist.
To make that depth possible, students take up real research, complete projects, gain hands on teaching experience, and lead cultural initiatives of their own choosing. None of this sits apart from their musical training. It is what the training is actually for.
By the time a student's journey with us is complete, they have not simply learnt to sing or play. They have learnt to write about music, to study it seriously, to research it, to teach it to others, to preserve it, and to help it grow. That is the education Veena Venu sets out to give: everything a student needs to truly understand Indian music, not only to perform it.
The Tri-Sutra Learning Series
Three Courses.
Three Knowledge Checks.
Three Certificates.
Alongside regular practical training, every student completes three specially designed online courses during their opening phase.
Each ends with a short knowledge check, and each earns its own Certificate of Completion.
Between them, the Tri-Sutra Series opens up the student's wider musical education: listening, recognition, musical knowledge, culture, and the ability to connect ideas across all of it.
These aren't attendance certificates. Each one marks a genuine area of learning completed.
Practical Education with Personal Direction
The Personal Learning Arc
Every programme carries a defined curriculum and a fixed educational standard.
But as a student progresses, that structure grows into something more personal – a Learning Arc shaped by:
- The chosen discipline
- Age and level
- Programme duration
- Previous musical experience
- Demonstrated understanding
- Practical development
- Emerging musical interests
Students get the benefit of structure, without losing the sense that this is their own journey.
Area of Specialisation
Choosing Your Own Direction Within the Programme
A Veena Venu student can, at a defined point in their programme, choose one area to specialise in and take further than the rest of the syllabus, much like a student picks an honours subject partway through a wider degree. This point is set by how many months of the programme, and how much of the syllabus, a student has already completed.
This opportunity is not given to every student automatically. It goes to those who have shown real, consistent progress by that stage. Faculty at the Gurukul usually help guide the choice, based on where a student has shown genuine strength, and the student's own interest is taken into account too, so the final decision comes out of a conversation rather than one side deciding alone.
What a student can actually choose depends on how long their programme runs. A student on a six to nine month course, for instance, is not yet ready to take up something like full Raag Vistaar or Composition, since real depth in these areas needs at least a year or two of grounding first. Even on a shorter programme though, a student can usually take up a smaller, scaled piece of an area suited to their level, as an early step toward something they may pursue more seriously later on.

Every Veena Venu student spends time inside the living world of Indian Veena traditions.
This includes focused engagement with the Vichitra Veena, alongside an age-appropriate introduction to the history, diversity and cultural weight of Indian Veenas more broadly.
Students may also encounter:
- Rare and ancient Veena traditions
- The making and structure of instruments
- The work of instrument makers
- Historical sources and visual material
- Archives and documentation
- Preservation challenges
- The Veena's place within Indian civilisation
Whatever discipline a student first chose, they leave Veena Venu with a genuine, informed connection to the heritage the institution represents.
03Living Music Experience
Music means something different when it's encountered through people, places, traditions, objects and living memory – not only through a lesson.
Depending on programme duration and level, a student's Living Music Experience might include:
- Observing the work of an instrument maker
- Meeting an artist, scholar, artisan or tradition-bearer
- Exploring music within a temple, museum or heritage site
- Documenting a musical memory from within their own family
- Studying an unfamiliar Indian instrument
- Tracing the journey of a Raag, composition or musical idea
- Documenting a cultural or musical practice
- Curating a listening experience
- Taking part in a preservation or cultural initiative
No textbook builds this kind of cultural understanding on its own.
04Independent Original Work
Every student produces at least one substantial independent piece of work over the course of their programme.
Depending on age, discipline and level, this might be:
- A musical creation
- A composition
- An interpretive study
- Documentation
- An educational presentation
- A heritage project
- A cultural study
- Research
- A teaching-based project
- A musical communication initiative
- Another meaningful original outcome
It's the shift from "I was taught this" to "I used what I learnt to make this."
05Har Ghar Veena
Every Veena Venu student becomes part of the wider Har Ghar Veena Mission.
Students gradually develop an understanding of Indian Veena traditions, the importance of Vichitra Veena and the need to carry awareness of Indian musical heritage beyond the classroom.
This enables students to recognise that their musical journey is connected with a larger cultural responsibility.
06Cultural Communication Project
Every student runs a real-world communication project of their own, sharing meaningful awareness of Indian music, the Veena tradition, the Vichitra Veena, or another area of musical heritage with a wider audience.
This can happen through:
- Schools or colleges
- Family and community circles
- Workplaces
- Residential communities
- Cultural groups
- Educational presentations
- Digital communication
- Music-awareness sessions
- An initiative the student designs themselves
Through this, students build confidence, clarity of thought, communication ability, cultural articulation, leadership, and real experience representing musical knowledge responsibly.
Advanced Pathways for Students Aged 14+
Veena Venu
Young Research Scholar
Eligible students aged fourteen and above can take on an original research project.
The student picks a subject, develops a genuine question, studies the relevant sources, and writes an independent research paper built on their own thought and interpretation.
Exceptional work may be considered for publication through a Veena Venu platform.
Veena Venu
Batch Mentor Practicum
Eligible students aged 18 and above can also experience music education from the other side as a mentor.
Depending on the selected level, the practicum may include:
- Understanding the needs of a batch
- Participating in lesson planning
- Preparing explanations and examples
- Teaching selected musical concepts
- Conducting supervised sessions
- Guiding students through appropriate material
- Developing clarity in musical communication
Different levels of sustained work and responsibility may receive corresponding Batch Mentor certification.
Reviews, Learning Credits and Examinations
Musical Understanding Reviews
At selected stages, students complete understanding-based reviews through explanation, demonstration, interpretation, identification or short video responses.
These reviews look beyond repetition and memorisation.
Veena Venu Learning Credits
Recognised courses, knowledge checks and qualifying academic or experiential work contribute to the student's Veena Venu Learning Credits.
This creates a richer record of sustained education across the programme.
Culminating Theory Examination
Every complete programme concludes with a formal theory examination appropriate to the student's discipline, level and course journey.
Culminating Practical Examination
Every complete programme also includes a formal practical examination, conducted offline or live online according to the programme.
Where applicable, the student's selected Area of Specialisation may form part of the final practical evaluation.

Guidance Conversation
Where needed, we arrange a conversation to understand the student's goals, availability, previous training and expectations from the programme.
Programme and Pathway Placement
The Gurukul recommends the right discipline, programme, level, duration and study mode, factoring in faculty and batch availability.
Application and Formalities
The student completes the admission form and submits the required information and documents.
Programme fees and payment arrangements are shared as part of this formal step.
Formal Acceptance
Admission is confirmed once:
- The selected programme is approved
- Required documentation is complete
- The applicable fee is paid
- Gurukul standards and the student code are acknowledged
- Faculty, batch and study mode are confirmed
Dīkṣā Confirmation
The student receives formal confirmation of their place in the Veena Venu Gurukul journey, along with next steps and commencement details.

The student completes the Prelude, so the Gurukul can understand them before the wider journey begins.

The student's authentic musical starting point is established.
Gurukul Initiation
